Lunch ladies..........

What do cooks cook when they are cooking for hundreds a day?

That was the challenge of professional school lunch ladies back in the day! They had to be very creative in planning meals, meeting the guidelines of the U.S. government, making tasty heartwarming food kids would eat, and staying within budget!

Remarkable Ladies! I think we can all agree....they were great cooks. Who can remember the chili and cinnamon rolls on a cold winter day? Or, hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes? Or even fish sticks on Friday? Some schools even make cabbage pockets! But it was those "hot rolls" that would get you every time! The buttery smell of them baking would travel to 5th period math class and would awaken your hunger pains every time!

They took pride in their job of providing a service to young students who just wanted to fill up their little bellies and get out to recess!
